Snowball Express

The story revolves around a New Yorker named John Baxter, who inherits an old hotel in the snowy mountains of Colorado. He moves his family, to renovate and transform the hotel into a ski lodge. With its charming plot and light-hearted humour, Snowball Express captures the spirit of family togetherness, highlighted by picturesque winter scenery.

It’s a Wonderful Life

This film will always be a cherished and heartwarming holiday classic. We are introduced to George Bailey, a family man in the small town of Bedford Falls. On the brink of despair, George is offered an extraordinary opportunity to see what life would have been like for those around him if he had never been born. Guided by his guardian angel, Clarence, George embarks on a poignant journey that reveals the profound impact of his existence. This heartwarming story resonates with audiences, serving as a reminder of the impact one life can have on many.

Miracle on 34th Street (1994 Version)

Richard Attenborough plays Kris Kringle, who steps in as Santa Claus for a Thanksgiving parade where he is noticed for his cheerful demeanour and ability to bring joy to children. Afterwards, he is hired by department store Cole's to fill the role during the Christmas season. However, his unconventional claims lead to a series of events that test the beliefs of those around him. Mr Kringle is put on trial to prove his identity and the existence of Santa Claus. The court case raises thought-provoking questions about faith, belief, and the spirit of Christmas. We love that Attenborough learnt sign language for the film and surprised the actress who played Sami, when he asked ‘What is your name?’ in sign. Her reaction in the film was genuine.

Klaus

Klaus is an animated film that presents a unique origin story of Santa Claus. It follows the journey of Jesper the postman, who is newly stationed in the remote and icy town of Smeerensburg, a place known for its bitter feud between two families. As Jesper struggles to adapt to his new life, he encounters Klaus, a mysterious toymaker living in isolation. Klaus, with his profound kindness and extraordinary talent for crafting toys, becomes the catalyst for change in Smeerensburg. Together, they embark on a mission to bring joy and goodwill to the town. The film beautifully explores themes of friendship, forgiveness, and the magical power of kindness.

The Holiday

Probably a cliché but we had to include this! Nancy Meyers directed this Christmas classic, which follows two women from opposite sides of the Atlantic, who find themselves struggling with heartbreak. In a bid to escape their problems, they decide to swap homes for the Christmas holiday. Iris takes a festive retreat in Amanda’s sleek, modern LA mansion, while Amanda finds herself in a cosy English cottage. As they settle into their new surroundings, both women discover unexpected friendships and potential new romances.

Meyers has a magic touch of making even the most mundane moments appear magnetic. You find yourself immersed in a world where every meal shared, every coffee brewed, and each heartfelt conversation unfolds with a sense of grace. In the Nancy Meyers universe, the simple joys of life are elevated, celebrating the beauty of human connection in aesthetically pleasing surroundings. It’s a space that feels both familiar and enchanting, inviting you to escape into its warmth and revel in the sweet simplicity of everyday moments.

I’ll Be Home For Christmas

This a heartwarming holiday film that centres around Jake Wilkinson, a college student who is promised a vintage Porsche if he returns home in time for Christmas dinner in New York. His carefully made plans take a comedic and unexpected turn and becomes an elaborate cross-country journey facing a series of numerous misadventures along the way. The film beautifully captures the spirit of Christmas and reminds us all of the joy and sometimes tumultuous journey of returning to where we truly belong during the holiday season.

Dash and Lily

Dash and Lily

This one is a tv show but we just had to include it on this list! A charming series that captures the excitement of New York City during the festive winter season. Based on the novels by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, the story follows Dash, a cynical teenager who discovers a mysterious red notebook in the iconic Strand bookshop. The notebook belongs to Lily, a quirky and optimistic girl eager to escape her comfort zone. Through the pages of their notebook, Dash and Lily embark on a playful game of dares and challenges that leads them across the city, from iconic landmarks to hidden gems. Making it a perfect watch for those who look for a touch of magic in their lives.
